Welcome Letter
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is our privilege and great pleasure to invite you to the seventh edition of the International Workshop on New Trends in Medical and Service Robots (MESROB 2020), 08. – 10. July 2020 on the campus of the University Hospital Basel. Together, the city of Basel and the canton Basel Countryside host the oldest University of Switzerland. Therefore, Basel has a long history related to medicine. However, this is the first time that we connect the field of robotics with the field of medicine in the Basel area. For this reason, we strongly collaborate with partners from ETH Zurich, partners from industry, as well as hospitals (University Hospital Basel, University Children Hospital of Basel, and the Balgrist).
To allow participants profit from our experience in the field of robotics and automation in the field of medicine, we will have pre-conference workshops from 06. – 07. July 2020 in the old University directly at the Rhine. At this historic as well as beautiful location, participants will be able to work on practical real-time automation systems in industrial workshops. During scientific workshops, participants will gain insight in the current status of medical robotics and determine the need of the end-users of such devices for the future. Pre-conference workshops will be followed by the MESROB 2020 08. – 10. July on the campus of the University Hospital Basel. The MESROB 2020 is an established conference of the International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science (IFToMM). MESROB 2020 will provide exclusive insights in research on the MIRACLE project (Minimal Invasive Robot-Assisted Computer-guided LaserosteotoME) at the University of Basel. Also, participants will be able to experience the spirit of the CYBATHLON, a competition and platform to drive forward research and development of assistance systems for everyday use. MESROB 2020 will be the first scientific conference directly after the second edition of the CYBATHLON (May 2020, SWISS Arena in Kloten, Switzerland), where teams and pilots can reveal details of the applied technologies. Together, the Pre-Conference Workshops and the MESROB 2020 will form the first edition of the Medical Robotics Week (MRW 2020).
We very much look forward to your participation and to welcoming you with open arms to Basel!
Kind regards on behalf of the
MESROB 2020 Steering Committee
Prof. Dr Georg Rauter
