On 27th April, the 7th ISBE Online Academic Forum on "Frontiers in Bionic Engineering" was successfully held online organized by the Youth Commission of ISBE. Dr Hamed Rajabi from London South Bank University was invited to share the latest research progress of his group on biology-based engineering. The forum was presided over by associate Prof. Jianing Wu from Sun Yat-sen University.
The presentation is a brief review of the work of Dr Rajabi and his team known as the Mechanical Intelligence (MI) Research Group focusing on understanding the complexities of living systems by combining knowledge and expertise from different fields. Dr Rajabi mainly explored the mechanisms that facilitate the adaptability of the wings and the potential applications of those mechanisms in technology. Some other designs inspired by biological systems, including a multi-degree-of-freedom mechanical joint, an adaptive robotic foot, and an insect-inspired gripper for industrial applications were further introduced. The bionic strategies of Dr Rajabi from life inspiration to technology application opened a new vision and expanded new ideas for the participants.
The forum has attracted participants from dozens of universities and research institutions around the world, including University of Surrey, London South Bank University, Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry CAS, City University of Hong Kong, Jilin University, Sun Yat-sen University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tianjin Normal University, etc. The forum was simultaneously broadcasted live via KouShare Conference Service System, and the total number of viewers exceeded 1400.
"Frontiers in Bionic Engineering" online academic forum is a series of academic exchange activities initiated by the Youth Commission of ISBE aiming to create a compelling academic exchange platform for young scholars and graduate students in the field of bionics.
