On September 20-22, the International Youth Conference of Bionic Science and Engineering 2024 (IYCBSE 2024) was successfully held in Nanjing, China. The conference was hosted by the ISBE Youth Committee and jointly organized by Southeast University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Jilin University and Wuhan University.

Prof. Thomas Stegmaier, President of ISBE and researcher at DITF Denkendorf, Prof. Lei Ren, Standing Vice-President of ISBE and professor at Jilin University/University of Manchester, and Prof. Zhihui Zhang, General Secretary of ISBE and professor at Jilin University, were invited to attend the conference. Prof. Zhihui Zhang delivered welcome speech at the opening ceremony.

The main aim of the conference is to serve as a platform for emerging young scholars in the field of bionic science and engineering, facilitating the exchange of ideas and the exploration of cutting-edge developments among the members. Over 300 representatives around the world attended the conference covering 6 Plenaries, 16 Keynotes, 83 invited talks, 72 oral presentations, and 62 posters.

 During the conference, the work meeting of Youth Committee, Enterprise Committee, and Education Committee were held in parallel. Most importantly, the Public Engagement Committee was formally established at the IYCBSE 2024. In addition, the 20th anniversary celebration of the Journal of Bionic Engineering was grandly held. This conference has presented the latest research achievements and rapid development trends in the field of bionic science and engineering. Through the exchanges and cooperation, it is believed that the collision of ideas and exchange of knowledge will greatly promote the application and development of bionics in the future.
